Twitter announced a new feature today called Trending Alerts. This feature helps users stay updated on popular topics. Users can now get notified when specific topics start trending. This is different from seeing the general trending list.

People can set up alerts for any topic they choose. This could be a news event, a sports game, or a favorite celebrity. Users pick the topic. Twitter will send a notification when that topic gains enough traction to trend. The alert appears directly in the user’s notification tab.

Twitter says this feature gives users more control. Users do not need to constantly check the trending list anymore. They get updates only for the subjects they care about most. This makes finding relevant conversations faster.

The company tested Trending Alerts with some users last month. Feedback was positive. Many users found it useful for following live events. Others liked it for keeping up with niche interests that might not always trend widely.

“People want to know what’s happening immediately, especially for things important to them,” said a Twitter product lead. “Trending Alerts cuts through the noise. It delivers timely updates right when a topic starts getting hot.”

Setting up an alert is simple. Users find a topic in the search bar or the trending list. They tap the new bell icon next to the topic name. That’s it. The alert is active. Users can manage or turn off alerts anytime in their settings.
