Tokyo, Japan – Sony Corporation revealed today it is creating smart swimsuits for swimmers. The suits use new technology to give real-time feedback on performance and safety. This project aims to change how athletes train and stay safe in water.

The smart swimsuit has built-in sensors. These sensors track speed, stroke count, and heart rate. Data goes to a mobile app for swimmers to review. The suit’s fabric is lightweight and lasts long. It works in saltwater and freshwater. Sony made the suit for all swimmers, from beginners to professionals.
A Sony spokesperson said the company wants to mix tech with sports gear. “This swimsuit shows how Sony uses innovation to help athletes. Swimmers can now see their performance numbers right away. They can make changes during training,” the spokesperson said.
The sensors use machine learning to study data over time. They spot patterns like tiredness or uneven heart rates. If the system finds a problem, it sends alerts to the app. Swimmers or coaches can act fast if needed.
Sony plans to test the suits with athletes this summer. The company hopes to sell them to the public next year. Prices are not shared yet.
A Sony engineer explained the design process. “We wanted the tech to feel invisible. Swimmers should focus on swimming, not the suit,” the engineer said. Early tests show the suit works without slowing swimmers down.
Sony also said it is looking into more wearable tech for sports. The company believes smart clothing will become common in fitness and competition.
